Spotlight on...
Albertsons
4421 University Ave., City Heights
Produce Manager: Barry Clowers

If you live in southern California, you have most likely been inside an Albertsons. Most Albertsons are so large that they often times have restaurants located inside of them.  Though the size of the store may be intimidating, the people who work there and the location are the things that draw you back again and again.  That is just the case with the Albertsons on 4421 University Ave., located in the heart of City Heights, which is known for its ethnic diversity, this Albertsons is bound to make everyone feel at home.  As soon as you walk into the store, Barry Clowers, the Produce Manager, makes sure that seasonal fruits and vegetables are always on display so you know what the best deal is going to be for the week.  Not only that but this store is always willing to do outreach to its customers by inviting the San Diego Nutrition Network Retail Campaign to do Free Food Demonstrations in the front of their store.  They have also been gracious enough to hold the Retail Campaign Kickoff event for the last two years.  At these food demonstrations, you could find a array of customers from Hispanic to East African, African American to Indian, Middle Eastern to Southeast Asian all because this Albertsons' central location and their commitment to share with the community the importance of fruit and vegetable consumption and physical activity.  If you are ever in City Heights, stop by this Albertsons to see why so many people from the community treat this place as their second home.  Congratulations to both Albertsons and Barry Clowers for being Champions for Change in their community!
