Camp WINGS Gets Fit!

In National City, there is a free summer program called Camp WINGS which is coordinated by Ms. Tamarie Tigh.  This year she decided that it was time for her students to get fit.  The theme, “Let’s Get Fit” was implemented by using the Nutrition Curriculum from the Power Play! Program.  Ms. Tigh created a 4 week camp for the students that focused on keeping their bodies healthy through nutritious meals, drinking plenty of water, daily exercise and getting enough sleep.  With the help of the Power Play! Resource book, Ms. Tigh designed lessons that were full of art projects as well as math, science, and nutrition.  She even had the students gain a sense of self awareness by becoming authors of their own autobiographies.  Her goal was to immerse the students in interactive learning activities that would help the students internalize the importance to leading a healthy lifestyle.  With the use of catchy chants and fun word play, “cool fuel” to describe fruits and vegetables and “fool fuel” to describe Hot Cheetos and soda, Ms. Tigh was able to take the Power Play! Program to another level.  Camp WINGS exemplifies everything that a Power Play Partner should be; educational, informative, innovative, and above all FUN!  Thank you, Ms. Tigh for helping your students “get fit” this summer!

Camp WINGS made a banner, had a fitness day, and participated in a fitness relay!
